Bernal Heights Summit (a.k.a Bernal Hill) is the large bald hill that peeks above the rooftops of Bernal Heights homes. Bernal Hill is one of the many folded hills of San Francisco, which were created by the ‘wrinkling’ of the earth when the tectonic plates converged nearly 150 million years ago. Today, neighborhood residents love it not only for the amazing 360º panoramic views of the city – the Golden Gate Bridge, the bay, San Bruno Mountain and downtown skyline – but also, for providing a natural refuge amid a bustling city environment.
Bernal Heights Park consists of 26 acres of preserved grasslands surrounding the hilltop and is filled with things to do; running trails, off-leash dog areas, and hiking paths. You may even catch a glimpse of a coyote, red-tailed hawk or California alligator-lizard, all of which call this neighborhood park home.
