Clayton is tucked into the northwest base of Mt. Diablo near Concord and Pleasant Hill. Though the city was incorporated in 1964, the population remains stable at approximately 11,000 people. The homespun downtown area celebrates its historical characteristics dating back to its founding in 1857.

Clayton is about 35 miles east of San Francisco but seems almost a world apart from the ultra urbanity. Clayton is proud of its family atmosphere and strives to preserve its values as a great place to live, work and play. It has been listed regularly in CNN Money Magazine’s “Top 100 Places to Live in the Nation” for small cities.

Clayton has a very civic-minded population and is committed to offering a high quality of life for visitors and long-time residents alike.
